Luggala - A Valley of Dramatic Beauty

Luggala House, nestled deep in the Wicklow Mountains, is one of Ireland’s most enchanting private estates and was home to the Guinness family, who fostered a rich artistic and cultural legacy there. It was purchased by Ernest Guinness in 1937 for his daughter Oonagh upon her marriage to Lord Oranmore and Browne.

Overlooking the dramatic dark waters of Lough Tay, often called the Guinness Lake, the estate became world famous as the filming location for Vikings and Valhalla, where its steep glacial walls and white sand shoreline convincingly doubled as the Nordic settlement of Kattegat. Although the estate remains private, visitors can enjoy spectacular views from the surrounding area, taking in one of Ireland’s most iconic landscapes.
